EL PERAL LAGOON PROGRAMME

The beautiful El Peral lagoon is an impressive wetland on the central coast of Chile just one and half hours from Santiago. It was declared a Natural Sanctuary by CONAF in 1975, thereby designating these 16 hectares of wetland a protected reserve. In this peaceful lagoon it is possible to find a great biodiversity of marine and freshwater aquatic bird species and observe mammals as well. The wildlife includes: the beautiful Black-necked Swan, Great and Snowy Egret, several species of ducks, White-backed Stilt, Many-coloured Rush Tyrant, Wren-like Rush Bird, three species of coots, four species of grebe, Lesser and Greater Yellow Legs, the Spot-flancked Gallinule, it is highly likely to spot the Plumbeous Rail who’s habit is to forage in the open, sandpipers, Brown-hooded Gull, the spectacular Yellow-winged Black Bird, among many other birds.
The beaver-like rodent Coipus usually fascinate participants with its presence. The beauty of these birds in their natural habitat will definitely thrill and delight you.
This full day programme includes: transportation from Santiago, snack, lunch, drinks, and an experienced ornithologist guide.
The Programme is highly recommended for birdwatching, photography and as an excellent opportunity to leave behind the hustle and bustle of Santiago and enjoy a family outing. Daily departures from Santiago are available all year round.
